The brains behind The Fast Show – one of the 1990s most successful TV comedy series – are reuniting for a one-off event in Norwich.
Charlie Higson and Paul Whitehouse will return to the University of East Anglia, where they first met as students in 1976, to celebrate 25 years of the cult TV hit.
The in-conversation event on Friday, December 5, will explore the origins of their comedy partnership and reflect on the legacy of one of British TV comedy’s most phenomenal success stories.
The event will feature unbroadcast footage of The Fast Show as well as an exhibition of unseen scripts and photos from the British Archive of Contemporary Writing at UEA, charting their creative process and production techniques.
While at UEA Higson and Whitehouse performed together in a jazz fusion group called Right Hand Lovers, and later lived together in London performing as part of punk-funk bank The Higsons and working as decorators – including doing up the Dalston house lived in by Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie.
Since The Fast Show, both men have had successful careers as comedians and actors in front of the camera and on radio, and Higson has written a series of zombie horror books for young adults.
Most recently Whitehouse has starred in Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing alongside fellow comedian Bob Mortimer.
