Jazz-fusion band Nubiyan Twist got the Spiegeltent shaking with their smorgasbord of hip-hop, afrobeat, dancehall, soul, reggae and dance.
The eight-piece band is led by local lad, producer, guitarist and percussionist Tom Excell, with vocals fronted by self-proclaimed lyrical healer Aziza Jaye.
Challenged by grey skies and rain they brought a much more sunny disposition to the Norfolk and Norwich Festival, getting a good deal of dancing for a Wednesday night.
Their musical blend means that their songs sometimes seem a little structureless, shifting between rhythms and motifs in a way that even their jazz parasol doesn’t excuse, and the lyrics are not the most challenging of prose.
But that didn’t matter for this festival experience, where the brief was to bring the good vibes and some brassy beats. And the certainly lived up to that.
