Norwich was in the mood to party tonight, and the House Gospel Choir was more than happy to provide the soundtrack.
With a sell-out crowd in the Adnams Spiegeltent already buoyed by the Canaries’ victory earlier in the day it was always going to be a good night, but the choir’s mix of house, gospel, and garage music lifted them even higher.
The performers’ enthusiasm was infectious: the group clearly enjoy being up on stage so much that it was hard not to smile – and sing – along. With the chairs cleared from the venue’s splendid wooden floor, there was a whole lot of dancing too.
A couple of the soloists sounded a little nervous at the start of their songs but, backed by the clear and strong harmonies of the choir and an appreciative audience, that soon dissipated.
This was a lively and fun gig and a great way to cap both the Norfolk and Norwich Festival’s first day of Garden Party festivities in Chapelfield Gardens and City’s success on the football field. As they said at the opening of the show: we’ve all got plenty to be thankful for.
