It’s a TV show that has made an international star of writer and lead actor Phoebe Waller-Bridge – and now you have the chance to see the stage show that started it all at a venue near you.
Waller-Bridge’s one-woman show predates the successful two-season BBC TV show, and was recently revived for a series of sell-out performances on New York’s Broadway.
That show transferred to London’s West End in August, but tickets for the four-week run were quickly snapped up.
But you can still see the show thanks to a series of cinema screenings, that bring the on-stage action to a screen near you.
Through the National Theatre Live programme, the September 12 Wyndham’s Theatre performance will be broadcast live to cinemas and theatres across East Anglia, with several offering further ‘encore’ repeat screenings later in the year thanks to the show’s amazing popularity. At Cinema City in Norwich, despite all three screens are being turned over to the live screening this Thursday’s premiere has sold out.
The plot of the stage show differs from the small screen version, but features many favourite moments from the first season alongside several jokes that didn’t feature on the telly. The play has also been tweaked from its original 2013 run.
