The faithful definitely answered the call for this now traditional Norwich Christmas event, reaching its fifth year.
A packed-out crowd at The Forum was treated to festive music from the Norwich Young Persons Theatre Voices choir, Norfolk favourite Olly Day, and the Blue Sueders with Elvis.
The 20-strong choir got things off to a traditional start with a medley of carols, before a series of songs that highlighted the strengths of various members. O Holy Night was strong, but the standout performance was a breathtaking Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.
With Michael Bublé tribute Dale Bullimore sick, local legend Olly Day stepped in to the breach as a temporary refugee from the storm-damaged Cromer Pier. The Rat Pack songs came as quick as the gags, but this was no joke act. Day can sing, as shown by his rousing set finale Nessun Dorma.
By day he may be a lawyer but once he’s pulled on a jumpsuit, Mark Fitch is Elvis and he brought lots of Vegas sparkle to seasonal songs like Blue Christmas and It’ll Be Lonely This Christmas. There was also a healthy selection of King classics and some numbers less associated with Elvis like Runaway and Sweet Caroline.
Organised by Jarrolds in support of their staff charities – this year Norwich Alzheimer’s and the Nancy Oldfield Trust – it definitely delivered the Christmas spirit to the lucky audience, and will continue to do so to those who benefit from the funds raised.
