How best to reveal the hidden stories of Norwich’s shopping streets?
According to Inspector Sands, it’s with an anarchic romp that mixes history with hammed up acting.
With the audience given carrier bags and radio headphones on which to follow the story, Sands –a man of many disguises — led the way through the city centre from the Forum to London Street, pausing to reflect on what might have gone before.
This unexpected tale included wild boar roaming the market, the eponymous strollers of Gentleman’s Walk and a modern-day shopper devastated by the lack of a mobile phone upgrade.
Each of the eight shows across Saturday and Sunday was unique, mixing the real-life shoppers with actors to embody the gently satirical story.
Fun, irreverent and tailored to Norwich: just what a festival show should be.
